Steam on looe branch

according to the latest copy of the railway magazine it is possible as part of the gwr 175 that steam could be used on services on the looe branch

Had a flick through this month's issue and there's no mention of steam on the Looe branch. There would be two obstacles anyway:

• Limited axle load on the branch
• Lack of run-round facilities at Looe so any workings would have to be top and tailed

Sounds like a nice idea though

I think there was something in Steam Heritage magazine that in the past there were suggestions to run Panniers in and out of there, but it never happened. I vaguely recall something about maybe doing it next year, Ill have to have a reread.

Wouldn't it be more sensible to pick one of the other Cornish branches? Falmouth for 3example. You'd still have to top and tail, but at least there's no reversal en route.

It's quite possible for that to happen when "slashing" if the room is unheated.

Though I'd provide an update to this thread.

The Looe Valley Line is running steam trains (Vintage Trains historic 1960s coaches, top and tailed by steam locomotive GWR designed Pannier Tank No 9466 and a classic 1960's English Electric Type 3 (Class 37) diesel) on the 19th and 26th September 2010.

There are four trains running on each day from Liskeard to Looe and back.
