Just wondered if anyone can shed any light on the destination of a steam loco's tender seen heading west on the A303 today? (On a lorry, not on its own.) It was observed passing Mere at about mid-day today, (June 17th).

From a quick glance, it appeared to be a Southern tender in all over black, (ie. lining and logo absent). Condition seemed to be ex-works.

Any info on where the tender was from and where it was going would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance! :D

Pass, but incidently on the way back from Plymouth on Wednesday i seen a BR black liveried Terrior tank (possibly 32662, my memory has gone) heading west bound on the A303 on the back of a truck.

(i did pop in the Plym Valley while i was there and asked after you but the guy that showed me round said no one from your group was there)

Gosh, there's obviously lots of trains on that road this week! I must admit that I am not particularly good at steam engine recognition, but this was definitely a tender on its own today!

That is somewhat typical that no one was at the PVR on Wednesday, but I can say with some certainty that I will be at the PVR a week on Wednesday and also a week on Thursday. Just in case you're in the area!

I did'nt know i was going there untill the day itself, tipped a 40ft container loaded with canoes in Ivybridge and was meant to reload at Cullumpton but that was cancelled so got a reload in Plymouth instead.

The guy who showed me round 17 i believe said his name was John something, said he was a member of the railway, a chairman or something, i left a little something for 17 and he insisted that i leave my name etc

To keep this thread on topic, in the vain hope that someone might reply to the original question, I've replied in the form of a PM, GearJammer. I hope you don't mind!

So, no one has any ideas on this tender? It must have been going in the direction of the West Somerset, South Devon, Bodmin and Wenford.. or..?
