The shocking event occurred as people gathered in Stradbally to enjoy the annual festivities this morning. Two people were hospitalised after a car crashed into a parade vehicle during St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Co Laois.

The shocking event occurred as people gathered in Stradbally to enjoy the annual festivities this morning.

It’s understood a car hit a miniature steam engine with two people onboard which was part of a vintage vehicle parade throughout the town.

A garda spokesperson told sundayworld.com: “Gardaí responded to reports of road traffic collision on the main street in Stradbally, Co Laois at approximately 11.30am this morning, Sunday, March 17, 2024.

“A woman (30s) and a male youth were taken to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

“No arrests have been made.”

It was at Stradbally in Co. Laois, which happens to be the site of the Irish steam museum. The driver of the traction engine and the passenger in the cart were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It was probably a one-third or one-quarter scale model of a full-size engine. They are cheaper to build and run than the full-size ones and are popular with members of Model Engineering Societies.

With a bit of time on my hands I've delved further, not much on the steam museum.
After googling more it seems they are a quite a few of these little traction engines about, and tbh they look jolly good fun! Want one! Still it won't be a cheap hobby for even a scaled down model.
