Stations with water refill points

Marylebone's got one that costs 25p to use now, suffice to say that's created quite the grumpy discourse on Twitter.

Chiltern suggest they keep 90% of the profits from supplying the water, and 10% goes to charity in some of the replies to the tweets.

So, is the 90% actually going to the DfT/HMT under the terms of their NRC?

I suspect the bulk, if not all, of the remaining 90% is actually going to ape2o rather than Chiltern, but the Social Media team haven't been fully briefed.

Mmm, I'm not sure I'd refer to that as "profit" if it's part of the cost of the service under whatever contract was agreed with ape2o. Agree it's perhaps most likely the case that the social media people don't have a full understanding of how this works.

I assume whatever deal was negotiated involved Chiltern/DfT not needing to invest any money to actually get the kit installed.

London Overground is starting to get some - specifically Seven Sisters has had a new water refill point installed on Platform 2 at the top of the escalator within the last week, and this is now functioning. Bush Hill Park has also got one on Platform 1 near the waiting area. Possibly more on the Weaver line also?

West Hampstead (Mildmay Line) has one near the entrance.

Worth noting that Avanti Pendolino have a free water refill point in the shop. I am sure they have been there for ages but i only found it the other day. nice chilled water. G

I had no idea about this, but heard it mentioned in an (otherwise tedious) catering announcement on Wednesday.

Very welcome, and hopefully may be extended to other services - GBR please take note!

I am not a big user of the shop, but am guessing that it may have been installed as part of the refurbishment.

Depending on tank size, it wouldn't be a surprise for it to run out.
Yes I would imagine so although I have no idea how or where it’s supplied from. I often find refill points at stations and even at my local leisure centre are out of use so it’s no big deal really.

They have been there since the refurb, but I think they've only been in use for a few months.

Lucky moths. ;)

I remember when they had the free bottles of water in first class, and - sadly - remember when people walked through from standard to take a load, as well as people in first also taking a few for their bags..

Oops, corrected!

Do the fridges in 1st not contain the free bottles now then?

That used to happen here on the GEML in the days of loco-hauled services. These days there is no need to carry additional bottles of water as air-con failures are practically unheard of and free water is only available to 1st class passengers if the cafe bar is open.

The railway is one of the few public environments where the word 'potable' is still used, but I wonder how long it might be before some bored junior manager comes up with a long-winded way of describing it...'not human consumption-suitable water', perhaps?

except that potable is human-consumption-suitable!
The opposite nowadays is "not suitable for drinking" or just "NOT drinking water."

Is there a list anywhere for stations with water bottle refill points?

I know most Network Rail operated stations have them, thought the one at Euston wasn't working on Saturday and going by the state of the out of order sign, hasn't worked for a while.

I am pretty sure Clapham Junction also has one in the platform 13/14 waiting room, in addition to the 9/10 one.

There is one on the northbound platform at Penge West which feels a bit random but I suppose it serves Crystal Palace Park which could be a reason why
