Been to a few of those mentioned recently, here is a quick review:
Hartlepool (Rat Race)- Fantastically small place, had a good variety of beers, even for up North. Had a pint from from Bath which I've never seen before. Hope it does well.
Dewsbury (West Riding) - always a popular place, beer always good, never seems to be empty whenever I go
Huddersfield (Station Buffet) - £4.50 for a breakfast which consisted of 3 rashers of bacon, two sausages, two slices of toast, fried egg, beans, tomatoes, fried bread and a cup of tea. Such a special place, hardly anywhere else can you get food for such good value. Plus good to see that a lot of people choose to go there instead of the crap Cafe Ritazza of whatever is at the top of the stairs.
(Head of Steam) - Another well liked place, good beer and some good food - bit more pricey than the Buffet but good quality.
Sheffield (Station Tap) - seems to be very popular now, first time I visited it was quiet, good to see beers on tap other than Thornbridge, excellent selection of foreign bottled varieties.
Hebden Bridge (Jubilee) - Only been in once, was quiet but mid-afternoon. Very good quality pint, hope it does well.
Few other places at stations I'd reccommend you avoid:
York (Coopers) - beer here is overpriced, as in most of the SSP outlets, and this is even with a Bite Card. Much better having a 5 minute walk either to the Maltings or somewhere on Micklegate or Blossom Street.
Newcastle (Centurion) - I should like this place as it does good local beer and used to be the 1st class waiting rooms, however it charges an extortionate amount for a pint of real ale. Much beter going to the Head of Steam across the road, or the Bridge (next to High Level).
), who rabble on about "Think 21" when a 19, nearly 20, year old drinking coke has the audacity to ask for a chocolate fudgecake. The bar steward then refuses to read what their own sign says. Numpties!
