Stations with NSE branding

Hi guys! I was at Moorgate on the FCC underground platforms a few months ago and realised that the station signs are still in NSE livery and are in good condition. Are there any other stations in the UK that are still have NSE branding?

ok. Thank you. It's interesting to see stations that have still survived with NSE branding since privatisation in 1996.

That route [Moorgate branch] is unusual in having much of the branding done in the wall tiling - so it will be both much longer lasting and much more expensive to change than an ordinary 'colour scheme'.

There are similarly permanent 'NSE' coloured features in the footbridge tiling at Southampton Central.

Just a thought, but might some of it (e.g. the line diagrams high up on the tunnel walls opposite the platforms) be the responsibility of Network Rail rather than the TOC operating the station?

Probably. I heard some (almost certainly untrue) stories about the fun and games that happened when they came in. Drivers insisted that they would stop at every single column and lamp post they saw if it were painted red. Some did.

It will be changed at some point, FCC recently changed the NSE signs at Watlington this year

Platform tiling at Welwyn North was one I was surprised to see... don't know if it's come up before!

Bank Station on the Waterloo and City Line has the NSE logo on the floor by the platform edge, slightly covered by the (yellow?) line. Quite an odd one by today's set-up, but a reminder that this was once not part of the London Underground :P

I actually used the Moorgate line today for the first time, it is almost as if time has stood still on those below ground platforms on the line: no yellow line on the platform and old signage, such as one for the "North London Link" at Highbury

Having said that, what is the deal with the dual electrification there?

The platform tiling at Emerson Park features NSE branding.

And Barking still has a few nameplates from the era.

There are still signs advertising "British Rail" at Amersham.

The tunnel from Drayton Park to Moorgate is third rail, the switch-over to/from overhead lines is at Drayton Park. IIRC there's a dead overhead wire from Drayton Park to Highbury & Islington (maybe further down the tunnel too?), to prevent damage if the pantograph doesn't drop properly.

Cannon St has plenty of the NSE paint around and still the seats but couldnt really see anything saying NSE when I was there a while back

The Northern City Line is odd, all the stations have full NSE branding still, including the route maps at Essex Road. Is there a reason why they've not been changed (given they have at Drayton Park) does FCC corporate colours not meet fire safety regulations or something daft like that?

It's because the NSE colour scheme is built into the fixtures and fittings, such as the tiling colours, floor tiles and enamelled metal fascia panels etc, in the same way as LU underground platforms are done. Changing it would be vastly more expensive than a facelift of an ordinary 'railway' station.

Plus as it's underground and therefore protected from the weather and in good condition, as well as a commuter line where the corporate identity really seems to be irrelevant, the other usual benefits from painting it up would seem not to apply.

It is just as far as Highbury plat 6. I understood it to be live (wouldn't want to find out the hard way) and that it's intended purpose was so the passenger's (on a train that didn't change from AC to DC) could be taken to Highbury for their connections, the train then returning to Drayton Park bang road.

Happy to be corrected on this.

The closed signal box at Sittingbourne has faded NSE branding on the sign there.
