I am looking for a list of stations which have car hire facilities within them (or reasonable walking distance, ie adjoining buildings, at entrance, etc)

As an example, at Edinburgh Waverley are Europcar :
http://www.europcar.co.uk/car-hire-EDINBURGH_WAVERLEY.html
They have both a desk and hire cars
Equally, if there is just a desk that is acceptable also

Out here in suburbia, Enfield Chase has (or had) a Budget on the station forecourt.

Cheers,

They are there, though I've never actually seen any rental cars there, and the office seems to be closed most of the time
They quite often have up to three hire cars sat outside the office but usually only after drop off or ready for pickup
More recently I have seen a Merc C, a VX Corsa, and a VX Insignia

I think I've seen an Astra parked there once, but other than that, nothing, and the little office always seems to be deserted and closed. I guess it's just to do with pre-booking.

I observed some passengers appear to discover it was closed
They then got out some papers and made a phone call
A few minutes later three cars appeared
Some more passengers appeared and they both left in the two cars
The office then closed and the staff all left in the remaining car plus they picked up one of the other cars, see below

Presumably the booking advises to "phone this number on arrival or if the booking office is closed"

Cars will be sat there from the key drop off
The person locking up took that car back

York has one just off platform 3, although I can't remember what company it is. IIRC Newcastle has one as well.

As a regular user Hertz has an office at York next to WHSmiths. Europacar has an office by the cycle racks....
Hertz is by far the better for cars although often dearer. Europacar gave me a horrid Peugeot 107 supposidly as a Fiesta equivilent!:(

The Europcar at York also has the distinction of doing left luggage and bike hire.

Stirling has a Europcar on the platform. However, since the barriers were put in, you have to go outside to get there...

There is an ERAC and it's hidden next to the Car Park, at Oswald Street / Midland Street

That's the only one near-by. Europcar are out near Hertz, west of the motorway.

Depending on whether you consider them a hire car company (I'm a member, and I do) Streetcar have dozens of cars near stations across the country. Loads around the London terminals, several in the actual station car parks at Oxford and Cambridge, and about three within walking distance of Glasgow Central, for instance.

I borrowed a BMW 1-Series M Sport for £20 the other day... 15hours rental and fuel included :D

Nuneaton station has an Enterprise office and cars just round the corner (opposite the bus station).

I saw an office at Stratford on Avon station on Sunday - Hertz I think but may be wrong.

Incidentally, Enterprise are the only rental company of all the multinationals who will pick you up and drop you off before and after your rental for free. Some do it on longer or more expensive rentals, but Enterprise do it without question no matter what. </advert>

I have a contract with National
Instead of pick up and drop off for free, they bring the vehicle to you, saving quite some time
However the pickup and drop off point has to be specified at least 4 hours in advance or there is a £15 admin fee and anything less than 1 hour incurs a further £25 excess mileage fee
