Bedford St Johns was moved by a couple of hundred yards in the 1980s when services to Bletchley were diverted to run through to the new (and also relocated) Bedford station.

In the South East other recent resitings are-
Crawley- adjacent site.
The ramp ends of the old station are adjacent to the ramp ends of the new station
Nunhead and South Bermondsey
In the 1920s both stations were resited short distances from the original
Uckfield
In 1991 was resited the other side of the level crossing.
PolegateWas resited twice. The present (third station is on the site of the first station)
The second station was about 400 yards away.?
Gatwick Airport
The first station closed in 1958 when the present Gatwick Airport station opened about 1400 yards( 0.8 miles) north. Unusual in the airport was resited as well!!

The original Gatwick Airport station was at Tinsley Green where the crossovers from fast to slow are. Until about 1991 one of the platforms could still be made out. The present Gatwick Airport station originally opened as Gatwick Racecourse.

Would Chinnor count? The original station was demolished in the 70's and a new one constructed by the C&PR railway

Some stations were relocated to a site extremely near to the original site. Two examples being Church Stretton and Castleton (the one near to Rochdale), where the new site was just on the other side of the road. (The original Castleton station was called Blue Pits)

Both Morecambe and Pwhelli were moved and now sit near, but not at, their original sites, I believe. (Apologies if mentioned up thread, I looked but didn't spot them.)

It was on exactly the same site..!

Just thought of two more..

Swanley
Original station was closed in 1939 when present station opened approx. 440 yards west.

Swanscombe
Original station closed in 1930 when present station opened 840 yards east.

Wasn't Tooting (originally Tooting Junction) moved after the branch from Merton Park was closed to passengers? I'm sure that it was still possible to see the platforms a few years ago.

The first Tooting station closed in 1894. It had 4 platforms with 2 platforms serving the Merton Park line and two on the line to Haydons Road.
The second station replaced it about 200 yards south and clear of the junction so only 2 platforms were sufficient.
The station building survived as a private house until the 1980s or 1990s and possibly sections of the platforms may still survive- although I have not travelled over the line for several years.

Aberystwyth (Vale of Rheidol) station was closed under BR rationalisation and the ng line diverted to the sg station

Seaton tramway. The site of Seaton station has been developed and the trams now run to a new terminus

Eltham station on the Bexleyheath line opened in March 1985 when Eltham (Well Hall) which was sited 200 metres east closed along with Eltham Park.

The old Eltham Well Hall station buildings were just west of the present Eltham station- the other side of Well Hall Road. When the new station was under construction the platforms merged into the old station platforms i.e. without a ramp end although a ramp may have been subsequently constructed after the old station was demolished for the new A2 Relief Road.
Eltham Park station was closed as it was thought to be superfluous as it was only about half a mile from Eltham station

On return to Blaneau, the Ffestiniog was diverted to a new station providing a direct connection to the national network

I'm also trying to confirm whether Dungeness on the RHDR is a candidate as originally the line beyond New Romney was double, after the war it became single with a balloon loop. Unable to ascertain whether the station was resited as a result

I just did a quick Google and I believe you are right; it was moved:

http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=17921.0

This was the site of the original Dungeness terminus on the RH&DR. What you see are the remains of the turning angle or turning wye. This was built to alleviate the need for a turn table to turn the locos around. However this was in use for only about a year before the line was extended to its current length complete with balloon loop. When built this section was double tracked like the original New Romney to Hythe section and had a signal box here along with a station similar to the terminus at Hythe. There are photos existing of the station here with a loco out being turned, however I cannot remember which of the many books on the line I have seen them in. This has been disused since the early 1930's.

I don't think we have mentioned the various Transport for London stations so far. Holborn on the Central Line was moved, in tunnel, a good 1/4 mile eastwards to where the Piccadilly crossed, which must have been a considerable engineering exercise. On the Piccadilly itself Osterley was moved by a similar distance so it could have an entrance at the main A4 road bridge instead of stuck down a side road. Hounslow West was moved for the Heathrow extension to a new location, while on the DLR South Quay was moved about 1/4 mile when three car trains came along, as the original two car length platforms had tight reverse curves at both ends and could not be lengthened. I'll bet there are several more.

It was my understanding that at Holborn new platforms for the Piccadilly line were constructed and British Museum station was closed.
Hounslow West the same buildings continued in use but the former terminal platforms were closed and new through platforms constructed on a different alignment.
Hillingdon on the joint Metropolitan/Piccadilly line was resited on an adjacent site for a new road construction
South Harrow on the Piccadilly line was also resited on an adjacent site in the 1930s
Tower Hill was resited in 1967 on a site a few hundred yards to the east on the site of Tower of London station which had closed in 1884
Kings Cross Circle and District line platforms were resited in 1941. The other two platforms became Kings Cross Thameslink which closed in recent times.
Stockwell was resited to an adjacent site in 1924
Buckhurst Hill had a new station building on a different site, one platform was on a different site.
Earls Court resited to adjacent site west in 1878
North Greenwich and Mudshute were resited on a different alignment when extension to Lewisham opened.
Aldgate East resited in 1938on adjacent site to the east of the first station.
UxbridgeIn 1938 a new terminal station replaced the first station on a different alignment

The Welshpool & Llanfair. When it was handed over to the preservation society, the town council wanted to redevelop the area through which the railway reached the mainline satation. So the line was truncated, eventually a new station was built at Raven Square

Fairbourne railway. I seem to remember that the site of Barmouth ferry station has been altered and for a second time when a balloon loop as per RH&DR Dungeness has been constructed

The present-day Berry Brow station (1992) is about 150yds South of the site of the original station which closed in the 1960s. Brighouse is also on a (slightly) different site.

That will be Mudchute and Island Gardens.
An interesting point because the station on the original London & Blackwall Railway at what we now know as Island Gardens was indeed called North Greenwich. It closed in 1926, having lost its traffic to buses. The DLR opened 60 years later along the same route, but gave the station there a different name. In 1999 the Jubilee Line opened through its own North Greenwich station, in quite a different location on the opposite side of the Thames. Not so much a relocation as a reuse of a name.

Heron Quays DLR station used to be located to the north of Bank Street on the bridge over Middle Dock. I think it moved to its current location at around the same time.

Apologies my error..!
For North Greenwich read Island Gardens.
Island Gardens (DLR) was originally opened in 1987 on the old North Greenwich branch just short of the original terminus.
It was closed in 1999 when the present Island Gardens station was opened on a new alignment for the extension to Lewisham.

The original alignment at Island gardens is still visible and available as a turnback siding, is it not?

Don't know if this counts there was an Eltham Park and an Eltham Well Hall, both went and the rather horrid looking Eltham Station arrived .

The original Lancaster Station is now a nurses home within the Lancaster Royal Infirmary Estate

"Morecambe" station has moved about four times, the last time ~20 years ago. The station before the last move is now a Pub and theatre

The original Windermere station is now a supermarket, with the station next door

Carnforth - historically there were multiple changes of location, the current platforms only date from around the 1930's

How far do you take it? Yeovil Junction (for instance) was rebuilt with new platforms on a different alignment in the late 19thC.
The original "Yeovil" Station was actually at Hendford on the line to Taunton, with the now closed Town Station coming later

Weymouth - that was moved and rebuilt on electrification

I think if you dig hard enough you'll find that at least 50%, if not more of stations have been relocated in one way or another

Filton station moved, but received a minor name change at the same time to Filton Abbey Wood.

The move was to serve the MOD place and to move beyond the junction so that it could be served by trains off the Parkway line as well as the Cardiff Line. In the future it will also see trains from Henbury, possibly Avonmouth.

ps has anyone mentioned Fort Bill yet?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Barnes (BNS) seems to have been relocated to Birmingham going by the number of times people put BNS when they actually mean BHM (Birmingham New Street)!

That identifies some people as haulage bashers.
BNS used to be the code for New St in 1H82, 1H83 etc, long before stations had codes given by the railway.

According to Quail, no. As I recall the new alignments and gradient to get down into the cut and cover section would preclude any connection to the old viaduct, but hopefully someone with local knowledge will fill in the detail.

Carto Metro shows a turnback between Crossharbour and Mudchute and also a third platform at Mudchute itself, which may have been part of the original Island Gardens route. However there is no track above ground south of Mudchute and the old viaduct towards Island Gardens now finishes in mid-air at both ends.

One could argue, that despite the differences in names, Smethwick Galton Bridge is the relocated Smethwick West; the remains of which can be seen a few hundred metres west of the modern station.

The third platform at Mudchute (hardly ever used) is not really on the former Island Gardens alignment, but is alongside it. The station opened with the DLR in 1987, but was rebuilt slightly to the east in 1999, among other things with a lower track level, to feed into the tunnel under the Thames. More recently it was altered again to add a third bay platform on the west side, to take the place of the centre turnback siding at Crossharbour, which has fallen out of use.

Similarly, the former station at Garston (Merseyside) had its platforms relocated to form part of Liverpool South Parkway.

Has anyone mentioned Stourbridge Town and Wrexham Central yet? Also London St. Pancras, if we're talking trains to Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield. In all cases the stations are now further away from the places they're supposed to serve....
