Stations served by London Underground but not managed by them

I'm interested in some of the Stations served by London Underground but not managed by them. For the stations that otherwise don't have London Underground staff based there (I think barking does?), are the TOC's staff trained on the LU stock that calls there? Ie, could they assist with detraining and do they know what to do in an emergency? I imagine they are trained on ramp deployment given the station is step frree.

And are they trained in LU dispatch procedures? If a LU train had a dispatch camera failure and required assisted dispatch, let's say this station is in the category where lookback would not be accepted, maybe due to a curved platform, what would happen then? Are TOC station staff trained on this as well?


I think these are the stations in question but there might be more

• Heathrow Terminal 5
• Kensington (Olympia)
• Richmond
• Upminster
• Willesden Junction
• Wimbledon

Ealing Broadway is another, though they have a LU station office tucked away underneath the District line trainshed.

Barking has a couple of CSAs for the majority of the day, primarily to do detrainments, although there is also a Trains Manager in the Train Crew Accommodation next to the station and the Duty Reliability Manager also has an office there.

Upminster also has a Trains Manager based adjacent to the station who could be dispatched in an emergency.

Terminal 5 has a Supervisor during traffic hours. This arrangement is unusual in that they don’t have night shifts there meaning that the supervisors only cover the station from start of traffic to close of traffic.

The aforementioned Ealing Bdy is just like any other station in that it has a Supervisor rostered 24/7.

All the other stations don’t have LU staff present so staff would have to be dispatched from another station in the unlikely event of an incident.

Toc staff would not be getting involved with LU operational procedures, although they could assist with, for example removing a person ill on the train (with the Train Operator resetting any PEAs operated), or assisting a disabled customer.

Doesn't Wimbledon have LU staff, there's a customer assistance counter near the platforms and the drivers seem to also take a break there. The gatelines are SWR staffed though. I don't think there's any TfL staff for the tram side of things apart from the drivers.

There are joint staff toilets in the lower concourse but drivers do not take breaks at Wimbledon.
For a time an LU Duty Manager was positioned during peak hours but I believe this has now been withdrawn.
