Spooners at Porthmadog Harbour Station - Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland - good range of real ale.

Also there is the Station Inn at the Cambrian Station other side of the town. Not been in there.

Anyone mentioned the York Tap at York Station also The Centurion at Newcastle.

I don’t know if it might be worth starting a separate thread for ‘Stations where you expect a pub to be nearby but there isn’t or there is but it’s rubbish’ (if enough people think so I will), but Loughborough leaps to mind.

Abroad, still plenty in countries such as the Czech Republic and Hungary. Maybe not as many as before, but certainly an eye-opener to see these little pop-up bars on station platforms.

The Station pub at Sutton Coldfield, whilst not in the railway station itself, is a mere four or five steps from one entrance. Not bad, not great. Always real ale on, but quality can be hit-or-miss.

The Last Post at Paisley is literally not ten steps away from one entrance. A Wetherspoon, so may not please all on here.

Oh, I’ve been there too. So my list at the start of the thread needs updating.

If the two Severn Valley pubs can be included (incidentally, all SVR stations (not halts) have a 'nearby' pub) then the two East Lancs pubs (Bury and Rawtenstall) deserve a mention.

Not sure if this discussion is supposed to be pubs on the station confines, or pubs under ( or over) the station, or pubs nearby.

The Swan and Railway at Wigan is right next to the station, you can just about see the trains from the window, however it's not on Railway Property. Similarly the Crossing pub at Hest Bank you can watch the trains , but the station closed in 1959 or 1969.

I think nearby is fine, especially if it has railway themed name or decor. But only if you can get a decent pint of real ale.

The Phoenix at Denmark Hill in south London literally straddles the tracks, occupying the original station building on a bridge above the platforms.

IIRC it first opened as the Phoenix and Firkin, created when the station was rebuilt after a fire. Most of the original Firkin pubs brewed on the premises, though I don't recall whether the Phoenix did. Beers included the (in)famous Dogbolter, one of the stronger beers of that era.

As someone who was known to frequent the Firkin pubs l am 99.9% sure that the Phoenix did brew on the premises (have to allow for the Dogbolter effect lol).

I think I remember it having a model railway that ran round the bar on a shelf just below ceiling level. Unless that was a Dogbolter induced hallucination of course ;)

There's the Ale House in the arches at Chelmsford that has a wide range of beers.

Track and Sleeper at Knaresborough is excellent. Beer garden on the platform.
And the Mitre, right next door to the station has recently re-opened and run by Brew York.

I honestly can't recall.... The Railway (former Spoons in Putney) certainly did.

The Tap in Manchester Victoria is a "new kid on the block" and is a delight :)

I hope it is cheaper than the pretty art deco bar on the station, I couldn't believe the price when I had (one) pint in there! The Lower Turk's Head is very close by and is excellent for both beer quality and price.

and a shout-out for Wigan Central too, under a railway arch. It's outstanding for beer quality and range (and welcome/atmosphere) I reckon.

If you want to pay London prices in Manchester, yes.
I'd love to pay those prices in London. You can add between 25% and 50% to Victoria Tap prices to get general London prices.

My reference point was a visit on 13th April when I paid £4.50 a pint. The following day, in London, it was £5.90 for a pint of similar strength beer, and that is far from being a high price in London.

Paid £3.60 in the Swan & Railway for a pint of the Wigan Brewhouse ale which is brewed at the other end of the street at the top end of Wallgate.

I swear the Victoria Tap was upwards of £5 a pint. £4.50 is acceptable.

For those up here in the Highlands, The Mallard on the northbound platform at Dingwall is worth a visit. There's also a bar on the concourse at Inverness (can't remember the name) as a quick visit to Costa is usually all I have time for!

For those thinking that Manchester 'Taps' are charging London prices, the Barrel Vaults (Wetherspoons) at St Pancras charges £4.97 a pint for real ales. And thats the standard price at 'spoons central London station pubs.
