Just a random thought as I watch someone post a letter on the platform at Bath Spa. How common is it for National Rail stations to have “in service” Royal Mail postboxes inside the barriers (ie only accessible to ticket holders)
I'm sure there is still one on the up platform at Morpeth. When I was young it was the latest collection by far in the area as I believe the time coincided with the travelling post office train calling at Morpeth. Last time I was waiting for a train there I noticed the last collection is before lunchtime now!
The irony at Bath is that as the sorting/delivery office (with more collection times than anywhere) is about 100 yards from the station, a postbox on the platform only really benefits people changing trains who are not leaving the station.
