Station identity

Hi there

Been looking for somewhere to watch some trains at speed and saw a video on youtube where mostly Virgin trains where sweeping up a curve in to this station. I have no idea where it is and was hoping someone could tell me the location of this station.

Interesting point, however I am always drawn to the example from Ireland of Bray Head (couldn't find one with a train, sorry). There's also numerous photos of the WCML through the Lune Gorge and over Shap that aren't any worse for the presence of wires.

I think those skilled in the art of photoshop can remedy that...

(I'm sure I saw recent example where all the OHLE had been digitally removed and there was no sign of the alterations, sorry I can't remember where this was).

I think it was a case where the photo showed a steam hauled special on an electrified line in open country, and the OHLE was removed to re-create the scene as it would have been at the time the relevant loco was originally in service.

Yes, it would be a bit daft to remove the OHLE in a picture showing an electric loco. I suppose you could then photoshop in a diesel dragging it to compensate

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be mean! But we all have built-in brain photoshop, don't we? So we SEE what we're looking at and dismiss all the other stuff in the view. "What a lovely view! - Oops - there's a pylon!" type of thing. A good example is pipes and wires on the face of buildings, they are very much there, but we visually ignore them.

You do realise that I, the pedant-in-chief of the RailUK Forums website, do read such scurrilous comments and it is indeed fortunate for you that even at the age of 69, I still retain a sense of humour...

I think you are referring to photo of 46229 Duchess of Hamilton amongst pines in Bessie Ghyll taken in 2003 by Dr John Cooper-Smith. Loco and Mk 1 stock all in maroon. All OHLE was removed to make it more 1950/60.

No worries I didn't think you were being mean. I was just pointing out that it was a screen grab, so the "quality" of the pic (pole included or not) wasn't so much of a problem. I figured people could tell me the location from the other landmarks.
