Station detailing...

I am currently building a Metcalfe mainline station, its going to be a pretty large station, 4 mainline platforms (which will take a full 7 car HST) with 2 bay platforms, but is open to change.

A I currently have the layout on the floor in one of the spare room at my dads house so I am unable to do much in the way of detailing around the layout, but the station is another matter, I can really go to town on detailing that, and I intend to add lighting, seats, people, nameboards etc.....

I have seen some good sets for station modernisation from Bachmann including.....

Does anyone have any other links or suggestions for making a real good job of this project, I'm looking for things along the lines of modern era station signs, platform numbers and basically anything I can add to make this a real good job.

My main point is adding lighting, I will have double and single sided platforms so I am looking for matching single and double armed lamp posts, plus advice on wiring it all up. I cant imagine its to much of a job to wire it up, as pretty much everything can be hidden under the platforms. Can this be powered from the track or would it need its own supply? (I'm running DCC)

I also intend to add lighting and detailing to the outside of the main station building, I am really looking forward to getting stuck into this and any advice or product recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Which DCC system are you using?

I am quite a bit from finishing off the scenic area on my layout
For the station lighting do NOT use power from the track
When trains pass or use power they may reduce the available current

Personally, go for an independent power source, that way your DCC won't be affected
If you want to expand that into DCC, then use a smaller AC power source, like the Lenz TR100
I am using the same principle for the wiring of my point motors
These are powered from a Gaugemaster DC controller (the AC output), but the wiring allows these to be converted to DCC in the future

I am nearing the end of the construction of my modern image N gauge layout, seems like it has been years (well it has!) but I will shortly be able to run full length trains as intended

No, the station packs are still on pre-order, so im going to do a bit or looking round online to see what I find, once I have built my station.

I am currently using the basic Hornby DCC system, but im not that fond of it and am looking into moving over to the Bachmann system, but that is some way off yet. I assumed I would need a seperate power supply for the lighting, which is not a problem.

Superb site that second one is, all the station names and platform numbers etc all in one place, pity they dont to scotrail signs, but can't have everything. Just noticed most of the stuff requires painting, im not very good at that!

Are those bachmann station packs finally available? I;ve been waiting on those for ages

They had them in Modelzone this week in Nottingham but they were getting on for £10! I want them but the size of my station is making me wonder how much I really want them, as I will need a fair few of them, and if I can actually wait a few weeks for them!

having now seen the Bachmann 'self service' machines (in pack 44-502) on someone elses layout I am quite certain there are too short, in real terms about 2ft too short, although the blue PERTIS machine looks okay.
