All railway stations in Great Britain have three letter alpha codes.

They can be listed on timetables, departure boards, station information services and used on the online journey planners.

For example, if I was to type LET into the FCC journey planner it would come up with Letchworth Garden City.

Therefore, the objective of this quiz is to guess the stations code.

In the words of compare the meerkat, simples.

The rules are as follows

1) The code must be from a station in Great Britain.

2) You may only post a new code if you get the previous code (unless somebody passes on their turn). It must be in capital letters.

3) The code has to be the proper station one as listed by National Rail. You can't just make it up as you go along.

4) You cannot use any website to decipher codes, this is cheating. However, if you are stuck to find a station code to post on your own turn, you may.

I shall start with a nice easy one.

Haven't LOROL recently changed those they have taken over? and do TfL stations use these codes? How many codes are not actually stations but where through fares are available..as in Dereham?

It seems we have had a few problems with this thread, so I'd just like to remind everyone:

1) Please only use station codes officially used by National Rail.

2) Post the codes exactly as they appear on the NR planner.

3) Up until now, things have been a little haywire, with codes being used from just about every heavy and light rail system in the country. I appreciate that it has been this way from the beginning, but I think we need to be a little more strict about what we are using. Therefore, I'd like to ask that henceforth we only use codes from the mainline (eg: Great Northern, ECML, WCML) and the London Underground. No more codes from Metro and tram systems (eg: T&W, Manchester Metrolink).

4) Finally, only use codes from the UK. I don't think we have had any foreign codes posted, but this is just a reminder.

I'm really glad this game has continued for so long and I hope it can continue to do so. Hopefully, this new criteria will make the game better for everyone.

I thought that it would be worth posting these rules clarifications that were made by HST Power, the member who set up this quiz, on 24th September 2011. It clearly refers to "the mainline", thus ruling out heritage railway stations, such as Dereham.

Therefore the clue still to solve is that set by Ivo.....RDA

Is that really why it is closed on Sundays? First I've heard of it :? Mind you, St Mary's is quite a nice church. Not that I've ever wanted to attend a service there; it's just nice from an architect's perspective. It has opened on Sundays before now though, but only ever for "big" [if you can call them that! ] Southend United games (I'm not aware of any other reasons). I think it should be renamed so that Prittlewell becomes a suffix personally [i.e. Southend Prittlewell], so people know where it is! But do we really need five stations with "Southend" in their name...?

BNI would be BNS's brother. And for the odd person who thinks that BNS is in Brum, I mean Barnes Bridge. Quite a nice view from there (by London standards), even from the road below.

PAW doesn't exist. The definitive guide that I looked up out of final desperation, but not to make a posting does not appear to show one.

I know that only UK mainland stations can be used, so the Indian Railways code PAW for Pandabeswar is somewhat outside the boundaries set for this quiz!!!
