This is what I was discussing with yorkie recently upon this thread and if you do make an incorrect guess at the clue, then the code that you then set to solve also becomes invalid. I have sent a PM to the forum quizmasters about a rewording of rule (2).

However, in this case the code was then solved by another competitor who was happy to carry on with the same code of LLF, so I will make my response...
