Middlesbrough is also a large town to have no direct london service but one can be caught from a small station nearby. (Brighouse and eaglescliffe respectively)

?????

How does that link in?

The only direct service Scarborough–Sheffield (via Hull) is slower and longer than changing at York.

The only direct service Huddersfield–Sheffield (via Penistone) is slower and longer than changing at Wakefield.

Simple :P

Well that's fair enough, but there was no mention of Sheffield until you mentioned it. We had a clue about Scarborough have a service to Leeds (TPE 185s of course).

Anyhow, Laindon also has at least one through platform that can (and does) operate as a terminus platform.

You need to pass through ticket gates to get from one platform to another at Ebbsfleet International, as is the case at Laindon

Bristol Temple Meads and Swindon were originally designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel (and the GWR).

Temple Meads sees a very limited service from a constituent of the former Southern Region. This is also true of Wembley Central.
