In much the same way as Leicester used to be known as Leicester London Road to distinguish it from the long closed Leicester Central. Nottingham used to be known as Nottingham Midland to distinguish it from the long closed Nottingham Victoria.

The current Upholland station opened in 1848 as "Pimbo Lane". Cressing also opened in 1848, when it was called "Bulford".

Chappel & Wakes Colne is also the first intermediate station on a branch line off the Great Eastern Main Line

Wallasey Village is another station with a "Village" suffix, albeit with a rather different take on the definition of the word!
