For many years, Smethwick Rolfe Street was the station to alight at for West Bromwich Albion football ground, until the re-opening a station at The Hawthorns in1995 (The original Hawthorns Halt had closed in 1968).

In the same way as Exeter St. Davids, although being the main station for Exeter, is not the most centrally located a similar situation exists at Watford Junction.

Kew Gardens is another Network Rail owned station managed by London Underground.

Bentley (South Yorkshire) is another station which is usually only served by trains which call at all (or nearly all) stations, whilst expresses don't call there.

Although the majority of stations in Scotland are managed by ScotRail Glasgow Central and Edinburgh are exceptions being managed directly by Network Rail.
