On 11th July 1995 the station building at Largs were badly damaged when a train ran through the buffer stops. A similar incident had previously occurred on 26th February 1971 at Sheerness.
Hadfield is where the former Woodhead line now terminates. Further east the only former Woodhead route station still open is Penistone although only the Huddersfield line platforms remain in use.
Marsden is another intermediate station on what is now known as the Trans-Pennine North route, which has seen terminating services in the past (mainly peak time commuter extensions), but now only has through services call.
