Goole is also situated adjacent to a level crossing with supervising signal box. However the signals here are all colour lights, whilst those at Knaresborough are semaphore.

Bristol Temple Meads was originally a terminus station with no through platforms, being rebuilt with through platforms some years after opening. A similar situation happened at York station.

Unusually for a London terminus Fenchurch Street is not directly managed by Network Rail being managed by c2c. Another such example is Marylebone which is managed by Chiltern Railways.

The long-serving John Holloway Sanders was the architect responsible for designing the station buildings on the Settle & Carlisle line, including those at Lazonby & Kirkoswald, in a style that became known as Derby Gothic. Sanders was also responsible for the original station buildings at Sheffield.
