Handforth is notable for having a wide variety of replica station signages not standard with the operator's signage (Northern). Downham Market can be considered another, having signage replicating Network SouthEast.

Bowes Park has a turnback siding in between the two running lines just north of the station, a facility also provided at Amersham.

Belle Vue doesn't have trains calling at the station on Sundays, something that also occurs at Castle Bar Park.

The original Stockton & Darlington Railway although serving Darlington, actually ran from Stockton on Tees to Shildon.

A small handful of signal boxes built in the early 1870s remain in active service.

One of these 'boxes is adjacent to Heighington station, supervising the level crossing at that location.

Another survivor, a ground-level specimen, is on the York - Harrogate line at Poppleton

Brigg sees a parliamentary service on weekdays where a Northern train from Sheffield calls at the station at 11:07 towards Cleethorpes, and a return service at 13:49.

Reddish South is another station served in this manner, only having the Saturdays-only 08:46 from Stalybridge to Stockport and 09:10 Stockport to Stalybridge train calling at the station.

Does Brigg see any service at all (as well as Kirton Lindsey) at this point in time?
According to the Northern website it changed with the new timetable.
  • Sheffield – Worksop – Gainsborough Central (+ Brigg and Cleethorpes) Amendment to the Saturday only Brigg Line service between Sheffield and Cleethorpes to provide one return trip every weekday. This will also change the time of the weekday Sheffield to Gainsborough Central service, with no peak service. Alternative Sheffield to Gainsborough Lea Road services will remain unchanged.
