Aberystwyth is one of the two termini on the Cambrian lines. The other one is Pwllheli.

Today's Gravesend was formerly known as Gravesend Central to differentiate it from the separate Gravesend West on a long-closed branch line.

Another station which had a 'Central' suffix, which has now been mostly purged from National Rail parlance (but still used locally and by the T&W Metro) is Newcastle.

In Simon Jenkins' book Britain's 100 Best Railway Stations, Newcastle was one of only ten to be awarded five stars. Another of the ten, and the only one that is not a major station, is Wemyss Bay.

York used to have the UK's largest mechanical signal box a title now held by Shrewsbury.

Great Western Railway services also operate from Hereford, with services travelling to London Paddington via the Cotswold Line, although quite a lot of these services start from Great Malvern.

Most trains calling at Axminster are South Western Railway services travelling between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids, but a single Great Western Railway service originates from Barnstaple that terminates at Axminster during weekdays.

Like City Thameslink passenger services at Rye are provided by a single type of train (classes 700 and 171 respectively).
