Church & Oswaldtwistle is also a station where only one of its two platforms has step-free access. In this case, however, it's the Preston bound one, whereas at Rishton it's the Colne bound one.
The Borough of Burnley has five railway stations: Hapton, Rose Grove, Manchester Road, Central and Barracks. They are all on the East Lancashire Line, with the exception of Burnley Manchester Road, which is on the Calder Valley Line.
Clitheroe is at the northern end of the Ribble Valley Line, which runs from Manchester Victoria. The station is normally the terminus, but occasional passenger services do continue north towards Hellifield, where the line joins the Settle to Carlisle Railway.
Between ca.1862 and 1876, Mr Joseph Smith was the station master at Giggleswick, before moving onto New Mills (now New Mills Central) where he was from 1879.
Goole station is mentioned in the song "Slow Train" by Flanders and Swann ("No one departs, no one arrives, From Selby to Goole") about various closed lines on the British railway network. Selby and Goole stations were not threatened by Beeching, though the line "from Selby to Goole" mentioned in the song was closed to passengers.
