Continuing the same broad theme, a current station which once had the "Parkway" name is Alfreton. When it reopened in May 1973, it was given the name Alfreton and Mansfield Parkway, as the nearby town of Mansfield in Nottinghamshire did not have a passenger service of its own, making it at the time one of the largest towns in Britain without such a service. Following the reopening of the Robin Hood Line in 1995, Mansfield station re-opened, so Alfreton station reverted to its original name.

Mr Frank MacPhail was the Station Master at Inverness between 1919 and 1931. He had previously held the same post at Elgin between 1899 and 1919.

For a time, today's Elgin station was named Elgin West to differentiate the ex-LMS facility from the nearby ex-LNER facility at Elgin East.
Following closure of Elgin East in 1968, the West suffix was dropped.

A similar situation arose at the ex-Midland Railway's Appleby - the station being known as Appleby West in early BR days, until the suffix could be dropped following closure of Appleby East station on the ex-LNER line from Penrith in the early 1960s.

Until services ended in the early years of BR, Malton was the terminus of the Malton Dodger, a local passenger train along the branch line to Driffield.

St Helens Central was formerly the terminus of another local train with a "Dodger" nickname - the Ditton Dodger, which ran between St Helens (Shaw Street, as it was named at the time) and Ditton Junction until 1951.

Chelford is another station that had its original station buildings rebuilt to the design of the architect William Robert Headley.

In 1960 the LMR introduced electric multiple units to the Manchester - Crewe line through Chelford.

In the same year, the ScR started operating EMUs on their new North Clyde electrification scheme, one of the termini being Helensburgh Central.

Helensburgh Central station was opened in 1858 (as Helensburgh), as the terminus of the Glasgow, Dumbarton and Helensburgh Railway and is located in the centre of the town. The entire station building and platforms were rebuilt in 1897 to the design of James Carswell, who was Chief Engineer to the North British Railway. Previously, he had also been responsible for the design of the station building at Springburn in 1875, although the station did not open until 1887.
