Although opened in 1853 as detailed above, Honeybourne station was closed in 1969 but re-opened in 1981. The same year saw the opening (for the first time) of Birchwood station.

Moses Gate is served only by Sprinters, despite it being on an electrified line with electrified stopping services passing through on a regular basis. Another station in the same situation is Longport.

Congleton station has a very similar layout to Stroud: two platforms, connected by an outdoor footbridge, with one platform having a waiting room, and the other having a ticket office with a small car park immediately in front.

At Ribblehead, some trains terminate, but actually run out beyond the station to allow the train to switch to the other track and the driver to change ends. Terminating trains at Alderley Edge generally follow a similar procedure.

Beaulieu Road is another station ending in “Road” that often gets skipped by fast trains.
