Kearsley station has had several name changes over its lifetime. When opened in 1838 it was named Ringley, quickly changing to Stoneclough, before migrating via Kearsley & Stoneclough to just Kearsley in 1903.

Another station with a similar nomenclature trajectory originally opened as Newburgh, becoming Newburgh for Parbold, then Parbold for Newburgh and finally today's Parbold.

The Hartford Curve allows trains from the West Coast Line to join the Mid Cheshire Line; the nearest station on the latter line is Greenbank, which also serves the town of Hartford.

Travelling on the Mid-Cheshire line towards Chester, Cuddington is 32¾ miles from Manchester Piccadilly (via Stockport).

Going "the other way" from Manchester Piccadilly to Chester (via Earlestown), after 32¾ miles you will arrive at Helsby.
