Tal-y-Cafn station had approximately 1,362 passenger uses in 2018-2019. Although this isn't many, the joint lowest stations for the same period were Denton and Stanlow & Thornton, both with 46 passenger uses.

Chester-le-Street is also a two platform, Northern served station still running despite being named in the ‘Slow trains’ Beechings cuts song.
