There have been two station buildings at Wrexham General. The first was built by the Shrewsbury and Chester Railway and designed by the architect Thomas Penson of Wrexham, who also designed the station at Gobowen.

Trowbridge station was originally opened by the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth Railway in 1848. The last station on this route before arriving at Weymouth is at Upwey Junction.

Preston is the halfway point for the West Coast Main Line. Similarly, York is the halfway point (or at least the closest to) for the East Coast Main Line.
