Moulsecoomb is on the East Coastway Line from Brighton to Hastings. It is the first station on the line when leaving Brighton; the last station on the line before arriving at Hastings is St Leonards Warrior Square.

Inverness station was opened on 5 November 1855 as the western terminus of the Inverness and Nairn Railway. In 1865 the station was enlarged to the designs of Murdoch Paterson. He became the Chief Engineer of the Highland Railway in November 1874, during which he was responsible for the design of Garve station on the Kyle of Lochalsh Line.

The original reference design for the construction of the international Station was by Nick Derbyshire, former head of British Rail's in-house architecture team for Rail Link Engineering (RLE), with lead architect being Alistair Lansley. He was also Lead Architect for Ebbsfleet International.
