Network Rail owns more than 2,500 railway stations, including Leeds. Management and operation of most of them is carried out mostly by the principal train operating company serving that station. However, in a few cases the train operating company does not serve the station; one of them is Hinckley, which is served by CrossCountry, but it managed by East Midlands Railway.

The North Concourse at Leeds was designed by William Henry Hamlyn, the Chief Architect of the LMS. He was also responsible for the design of Apsley station in 1938.
