Ystrad Mynach railway station was used as a location in the pilot episode of Porridge (Prisoner and Escort), part of the series Seven of One, starring Ronnie Barker in 1973. The plot involved Fletcher being taken to Slade Prison, but instead of filming at London St Pancras, they moved the scene and filmed at Ystrad Mynach instead!

Shotton High Level station is on the Borderlands Line and consists of two platforms; services operate every 60 minutes in each direction (Monday-Saturday daytime) between Wrexham Central and Bidston (where passengers can change for Liverpool).

In 2016 it was reported that the line franchisee, Abellio Greater Anglia, planned to demolish the station building and provide platform shelters in its place. It also planned to demolish the station buildings at Weeley and Kirby Cross. The buildings were subsequently offered to Tendring District Council for £1 each, should the council wish to renovate them.

Thorpe-le-Soken was also opened by the Tendring Hundred Railway in 1866.

Thorpe-le-Soken is on the Sunshine Coast Line, which is the current marketing name of what originally was the Tendring Hundred Railway Line. It links Colchester to the seaside resorts of Clacton-on-Sea and, via a branch, Walton-on-the-Naze.

Pwllheli is one of the termini stations on the Cambrian Coast Line. There are no direct trains between Pwllheli and the other termini (Aberystwyth), so passengers are recommended to change at Machynlleth.
