James Carswell (1830–1897) was a Scottish railway engineer largely remembered for his design of glazed roof on Queen Street Station, Glasgow and the huge approaches to the Forth Rail Bridge.

Another project with which he was involved, although it was completed after his death, was the rebuilding of the entire station building and platforms at Helensburgh Central station, completed in 1897.
