The main building was designed in 1867 by Charles Henry Driver in the Châteauesque style. He also worked on designs for the station at Southport from 1882.
Drayton Park station is in the shadow of Arsenal Football Club's Emirates Stadium, but is shut prior to weekend matches and after all matches due to safety concerns with handling fans on the station's narrow island platform. Instead, spectators are advised to use Highbury & Islington and Finsbury Park stations.
Coombe Junction Halt is also one of the only two stations in the National Rail Timetable to officially have the suffix "halt". The other one is St Keyne Wishing Well Halt on the same line.
