Passengers visiting Horwich should be aware that the town centre of Horwich is much closer (1¼ miles) to Blackrod, the next station on the line, although it has fewer services, no ticket office and a smaller car park (100 spaces).

Southampton Central also has timetabled services to Oxford, Bath Spa, Bristol Parkway and Worcester Foregate Street

During the mid-1990s, British Rail requested the permission of the Secretary of State for Transport to close Tonfanau and three other Cambrian Coast stations. These were the stations at Abererch, Llandecwyn and Tygwyn; permission for their closure was refused.

Havenhouse is the penultimate station on a route that was served by loco-hauled holiday trains on summer Saturdays in the 1980s which often attracted haulage bashers

Singer is also passed through by the Caledonian Sleeper as a day train on the Fort William portion.
