The idea is that a person wanting to buy or sell a ticket may unwittingly request/provide a ticket to the other destination.

It's one of the more common links in both active Association threads, and one of the few that can reliably be used in both.

I'm not sure that association can be accepted, if only because there's no station called Ashton in Makerfield (although IIRC Bryn is in Ashton in Makerfield), therefore Ashton-under-Lyne station can't be confused with it.

As a matter of fact, this has been the subject of an error many months ago by Nym when the extension of the East Lancashire Railway was being discussed and he talked of the extension from Heywood to Castleford (instead of Castleton) which caused some "hilarious" posting responses at the time...

The Settlement Association thread has a rule that says connections must be sufficiently "original" to not be (near) carbon copies of any of the last three links. Paul is enacting the same rule here which I feel is a sensible thing to do as it keeps it fresh, and your link is essentially the same as my Castleton move.

It also means that I can't make the next move because I would be taking multiple turns...

The line to Gosport (Portsmouth's original railway), which left the system at Fareham, was another - but unlike Fleetwood, which is thought to be edging nearer reopening, the line to Gosport became another example of Britain's similarly ill-advised obsession with BRT systems...
