Like Bishop Auckland the ticket office at Gobowen is run by an outside agency. (Bishop Trains and Severn-Dee Travel respectively).

Gobowen has heritage-listed station buildings designed by Victorian-era architect Thomas Mainwaring Penson.

Penson designed a number of other station buildings, many now demolished or converted to non-railway use.
Among the survivors is Shrewsbury.

Stalybridge is also the terminus of a "Parliamentary" service. (To Leeds and Stockport respectively).

York was also served by six TOCs in 2019, including Northern, EMR and TransPennine Express.
