I thought it was 'Slew-it'.

From Dunbar, have Newark Northgate - managed by East Coast but has occasional services from other TOCs (Dunbar SR and XC and Newark Northgate EMT).

My accent is more heavily North Lancashire harsher than most who live in this area, so that would explain my pronounciation.

Lincoln has a link to Newark Northgate in that both of these areas lie on the path of a very famous Roman Road known as FOSSE WAY.

Chester

Derby and Chester station frontages were originally designed by Francis Thompson. Chester's still remains today.

Concerning "Slaithwaite" in an earlier post - when I worked in Golcar many years ago, the BBC pronounced my neighbouring village as "Slaythwaite" ie with a long "a"; the locals always pronounced it "Slouwit" as in "ounce", and people who'd moved into the area, like myself, adopted a compromise and called it "Slathwaite" ie with a short "a".

Really? I thought there was only one way to pronounce Bicester: the right way*. Phonetic differences between accents notwithstanding...

Darlington also has 2tph to Birmingham (although the new timetable will put paid to that for Bicester North as one train becomes fast to Banbury)
