Witton is the closest station to Villa Park, the home of Aston Villa FC, and is advertised as the station for Villa Park on station signage. There have been discussions on changing the name of Witton Station to Villa Park as is the case with West Bromwich Albion's local railway station, The Hawthorns.

Known as Broadbottom when opened in 1842, the station was re-named Mottram in 1845, subsequently being named Mottram & Broadbottom, before reverting to its original name.

Another station which has changed its identity a number of times over the course of its life (going through various permutations & combinations of Farnworth and / or / for Widnes), before settling on the present-day Widnes.

Berrylands is unusual for a station in the London area in having wooden platforms. Another station with wooden platforms is Winnersh Triangle.

Winnersh Triangle railway station should not be confused with the much older Winnersh station, which is situated on the same line some 1.25 kilometres in the London direction.

Bicester North station lies on what was the last section of main line railway to be built in Britain until the 1983 opening of the Selby Diversion. The Selby Diversion runs from Temple Hirst Junction, south of Selby, to Colton Junction, south of York.
