In the mid 1990s, Sileby was one of three stations (Syston and Barrow-upon-Soar being the others) that were reopened between Leicester and Loughborough as part of the proposed Ivanhoe Line.

A short distance from the station was a signal box, which once controlled all of the sidings used for freight. These sidings have now been removed, and the signal box was dismantled and donated to the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway. Today, the signals for this line and station are controlled at Helsby and Ellesmere Port signal boxes (the former being on the station), operated by Network Rail.

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, to give it's full title, is also a request stop, on the North Wales Coast line, served exclusively by ATW.
