Burnham is an island platform on a route which is due to be electrified in the not too distant future

Burnham should not be confused with Barnham (which I did at first here and wondered what you meant ).

Glad to see that I'm not the only one.

Stourbridge Junction also has a short line branching off here

Liverpool South Parkway is also served by trains that draw power from overhead wires and also some that draw power from a third rail at this station.

Chelmsford also sees an hourly service that would have been branded InterCity in years gone by. (Which is ironic given that Chelmsford as a settlement was never a city during InterCity days, whereas now it is.)

Stevenage is also not a city (how many more not city stations could fit the 'ironic' statement? Answers on a very long roll of paper.....)

Very, very, few, actually. The difference is that Chelmsford had an InterCity service when not a city - but if the InterCity brand was still in use today, it would be appropriate, as Chelmsford is now officially a city.

Which also disqualifies your post - sorry! Also, the way it is worded suggests your post belongs in the Settlement Association game, as it seems to refer to the town of Stevenage - as opposed to the station in the town.

Still Chelmsford folks.

Salford Crescent is another busy 2 platform station with no facilities for terminating services.

Ivo - using your rules your own post is disqualified too as you state it is a City and wasn't when served by InterCity, which presumes you mean the settlement as the station is neither a town, or city, nor ever has been. The irony of an InterCity service not working between cities was my interpretation of your post. You must have mean the irony to be that it was served by InterCity, whilst a town, and has since become a city and there is now no InterCity? The irony of towns being served by InterCity was my interpretation, which is why I suggested there are rather a lot. I could include Inverness in a direct comparison for yours, but I find the whole thing too boring.

What Ivo was saying was that it has an Hourly service which back in the day would have been under the Intercity brand. He then went on a little bit of a tangent, by comment on the fact that when it was called Intercity, Chelmsford was not a city, whereas today it is.

I've rewritten the post to clear this issue.

At the minute I can't be particularly bothered with Forum stuff, so I'll do one and then be off: Some dump called Southend Central also has two words beginning with S and C in that order. (It also has one word of eight letters and one of seven, albeit in the opposite order.)

Stromeferry was also originally a terminus, later having the line extended to make it a through station.

Bushey also has a type of transport in its name.

Yeah, I take the hey to get to my sister's house

Rugby is similar to Bushey in terms of how services towards Watford work - theres a straight down the mainline run, and a round the houses type run (via Northampton in Rugby's case, via Watford High Street in Bushey's case)

Ivo that is an imaginary connection? Stromeferry so called because of the one time ferry, but Bushey is simply a later spelling of Bissei. If such nonsensical connections are to be allowed we may as well give up. Your prior complaint about mine, which was due to it being related to the place, pales into insignificance. Yours has nothing to do with a connection, instead assuming a derivation of a place name and then wildly inaccurate. I wouldn't normally are, but you jumped feet first into making commenting my association and so deserve recompense. Latly yours, if it were true, would also apply to the settlement and not the station. People in glass houses........

Reading also a major main line station and part ofa large scale remodelling
