Yes indeed. Moorfields station was opened on 2nd May 1977 as a replacement for the original Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway station called Liverpool Exchange to which you could have travelled DIRECTLY from Manchester Victoria through what is now Kirkby station on a fast express service.

I do feel sorry for some of the younger members of this forum who unlike me have never had the opportunities to have travelled on steam-hauled suburban and express pre-Beeching timetabled railway services. There I go....becoming all reminiscent at an unearthly hour of the morning...

[As Paul says, Rock Ferry was on the GWR route from Paddington to Birkenhead Woodside. Developing that idea, it was also the penultimate stop, and passengers could change there on to the electric service to Liverpool. Likewise, Guide Bridge was the penultimate stop on the now deceased ex-GC route from Marylebone to Manchester Central, and passengers could change there for the electric service for the shorter run to Manchester London Rd/Piccadilly]
