Shenfield isn't exactly what I would call a "rural halt". ....
I'm of the opinion that Shenfield is still the base station. However, to simplify things, I shall say Sheffield, because it also has "field" in its name.
Sorry, missed off the sarcasm smiley - I too was alluding to the "field" bit of the name. Obviously too subtle

I'll resist the temptation to go with Coatbridge Central again (once dubbed "the Crewe of the North") and will instead go with:

Ely

According to Michael Portillo, Ely was once dubbed "The Crewe of the Fens" or "The Crewe of the East" or something similar.

Peterborough - another station with manual announcements.

Can I get away with Cannon St because it's closest to the "Black Horse" that is Lloyds of London? :D
I think that is void as the Black Horse has nothing to do with Lloyds of London.

Sorry, I posted before I realized Cannon Street was likely to be void.

Rhyl...Also a seaside resort* :)
* - Although whether or not "Resort" and "Rhyl" can honestly be used in the same sentence is a matter of opinion... ;)

Barnt Green - at the other end of the Lickey Incline. cue for another station where the branch line is electrified and the main line beyond the station isn't - I cant think of anywhere else off the top of my head.

Maybe Hayes & Harlington; the branch to Heathrow is electrified whereas the GWML isn't?
