About South Croydon, isn't only the Uckfield route not electrified? Would that not make your answer invalid (Hurst Green or Oxted being more accurate)?

Anyhow, I shall use the same reason (non-electrified branch off a main line) and choose Newark North Gate.

So ole man wants us to revert to Kidsgrove? Very well. To simplify things, one that matches both it and some random station that serves as my local major station.

A station that is now closed but in practice probably shouldn't have been exists close to both (Etruria; Bath Green Park). It could be claimed that this is also true of, among others, Blackpool North (Blackpool Central).

Post PM from a certain someone: Just to clarify, my answer is Blackpool North. As with both Kidsgrove and Bath Spa, it is close to a station that was closed but probably shouldn't have been.

Morecambe shares an affiliation with Blackpool North in that both are Northern Rail managed stations (serving seaside resorts) which have been rebuilt away from their earlier situation.

Sorry about that...I took it that you were setting Preston as a clue last time, so that is why I showed your quote above in that posting.

SHR had Central (to BHM), Wales and West (to CDF), First North Western (to HHD) and a rare service from Virgin West Coast (to EUS).
WOF had Central (to BHM/BMO), First Great Western (to PAD), Wales and West (to BRI) and Thames (to OXF/PAD).

Gobowen shares a similarity with Shrewsbury in the case that both were built by the Shrewsbury and Chester Railway, have Grade II listed station buildings and are currently managed by Arriva Trains Wales.

There are very few inner-city stations that have "Road" in their name. However, it could reasonably be said that the same is also true of Camden Road, in spite of it not actually being a particularly major station; in Crosslink days however, it served as the closest station to central London.
