I'm surprised they didn't secure them from the Mk1 EMU fleet

A lot of mark 1 coaches are on either B1or Commonwealth bogies, none of the later slammers were on compatible wheelsets, although they might have been able to source some for B4 bogied mark 1s if there were any decent ones available and they had the necessary funds available!

I suspect its been quite a while since Huddersfield saw a proper train/carriage

Last year (August Bank Holiday) I was on a railtour through there which was 60 hauled with a rake of coaches, plus we had the TPE specials. The year before saw a 37 hauled railtour through there too - I saw it at Mirfield and it sounded great, but by all accounts it was even better under the shed at Huddersfield!

are a good place to start, although the actual route detail isn't always obvious. Most tours do appear on http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced about 10 to 14 days before they run, which will show if they do pass through Huddersfield.

I think the crane discussion was more about whether it could be moved for use elsewhere or restoration.
