Due to start with SE as a trainee driver next month and have just been given their list of shoes and boots to choose from.

Does anyone have any experience with this SE list of footwear as to what is best/most practical to opt for please?
What date you got? Will likely see you around the training school as I’m currently learning 707s

You’ll likely be at Orpington and have Danny and someone else training you
Cool, thanks for this.

Sorry for all the questions but the uniform, do we order these after we start? Have fired a couple of emails to them regarding uniform but not heard anything back.

Lucky I’ve only been with SE for about a year so I actually remember, within the next few days you should receive an email with joining instructions and also a link to the uniform portal. Careful with sizing try go with what you are for example there’s a massive difference between medium and large, especially the coats!

Also don’t expect to get it quickly, some lads on my course didn’t get there’s until after traction

You are right, will be training at Orpington.
Do you know if there are any onsite parking available for trainees?

Can’t park at depot, that’s only for drivers. May be able to get a permit for the station but you might have to ask Chelsea (grove park driver admin)

It's better to say that the depot parking is only for those who are based at Orpington.

I thought it was Tracy as depot admin down there ? Chelsea is over at Slade Green as well as the other Chelsea at Dartford

I did my 707 training at Orpington last year and they gave us permits for the public car park there

Hey I’ve just applied for a trainee train driver with southeastern have you got any advice?
Are they advertising? Don’t worry about intervieww or anything until that comes about but if you already applied then just look up on the psychometric testing (enhanced standards for SE) and try get some practise in. There’s a book on Amazon for £10 which I found helped me on it and when they send the assessment practise make sure you do it. But fingers crossed for getting passed application stage, that’s the hard part!

Thank you :) will do, there’s an open vacancy on their website if you type it into Google, I’m dover so the bit at the bottom of living 40 mins from depot is okay isn’t it ? Also I have no experience with trains but I have done blue light driving in the ambulance service. Really want this

As long as you can get there for before service starts and after it ends. Ambulance service will help massively especially if it involved, safety critical, rules/procedure communication and clear understanding and dealing with/ taking control of stressful situations.

Many people from all walks of life have come into train driving with no experience, my course had a school teacher on it.

With Dover there’s rarely any movement there as it’s a relatively small depot and majority of moves there are internal. Best bet for that way I believe will be Ramsgate as it’s a much bigger depot and full of old boys who retire. Ashford no chance as they’re over subscribed with 30 new drivers sat around doing pretty much nothing.
