Starting at a different station on return (same route)

Hi

I'm travelling from Colchester to Three Bridges next week and then returning the next day.
Don't know when the meeting will finish so I'm going to buy an open return (well the company are!).

On the way back I might share a taxi to Gatwick with people who are flying home.
Can I start my journey at Gatwick?
