Stansted to York after 10pm Friday Night

My friend's friend is visiting York tomorrow night, and they have a flight that lands at Stansted at 10pm on the Friday Night. The last train to York from King's Cross is at 22:00 so they'll probably have to rely on buses, or one very long taxi ride. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to do it? I'm not great on buses, and aside from a bus at 23:55 from golder's green, I have no idea what to suggest! Not sure if she'll be able to make it in London in time for that.

There's a 0100 Megabus from London to Leeds arr 0545 which for Saturday morning is currently £12.00, you would need to get a train or coach to Central London.

Terravision have coaches from Stansted to London Victoria on Friday Night for £9.00 single on either the 2300 arr 0015 or 2310 arr 0025.

Once at Leeds you would need to catch a train to York or a bus to York

It's not an official connection from the 2230 from Stansted (the earliest you're likely to get), changing at Golders Green so you can't get a ticket with though reservations - there should be enough time to make it but you're a bit stuffed if you miss it.

If they only have hand luggage, they could maybe make the 22:15 Stansted air to London liverpool st, arr 23:07. Another dash to the Central line, and if very lucky, could maybe make the 23:30 london kings cross to leeds (arrive 02:36, but often 40 mins early due to not taking its booked meander via askern), then 02:08 leeds to York.

Unless there is a genuine personal reason, then a hotel at Stansted and travel on the Saturday.

Sorry to have a negative take on this

Getting from the plane door to either the PTI (Bus and Coach Station) or the Train can take some time at STN.

Once off the plane you have to walk along the concourse and down the escalators to the shuttle train to take you from the satellite building to the main terminal building.

Then queue up for passport control (and baggage reclaim if appropriate).
Walk through customs and then out into landside.
Then down 1 or 2 floors to the PTI or trains.

There may be a queue to buy a coach ticket and of course you need a train ticket to get through the barriers. (In any case I wouldn't recommend the train as I don't think either Tottenham Hale or Liverpool Street are that useful for connecting for this intending passenger).

To get from plane to landside can take anything from 25 minutes to 45 minutes I estimate.

I haven't checked but STN can be quite busy at that time of night with planes arriving that can mean queues at passport control.

Certainly trying to do a change of coaches at Golders Green Is far better than at Victoria in terms of saving time / giving a bigger buffer. I reckon it would save at least 40 minutes (20 minutes each way between GG and VIC).

If travelling by train better to get train to Tottenham Hale and then Victoria Underground Line to Kings Cross / St Pancras.

Thanks for all the suggestions, although they all seem to have been in vain anyway. Let me explain.

My current roommate is having "couch surfers" over, people who want to spend a night or a few somewhere without paying any rent. This person is American, and is awfully planned. Turns out they decided to book a taxi from Stansted to York for in the region of £250! Seems like she has more money than sense
