Stansted to Manchester (Connections)

Hello,

I will be travelling from Stansted to Manchester Piccadilly tomorrow. My journey itinerary will be something like this.

There are some nice advance tickets on this route, and I am leaving 2 hours or so to allow for any flight delays. My question; is the Stansted Airport to Tottenham Hale with Greater Anglia likely to be a "booked place" ticket, where I'm restricted to a single train? I'd much prefer to wait out my contingency time at Euston than at the airport if possible, taking an earlier train from Stansted if possible.

If you are unsure, look up the same itinerary on www.fastjp.com and see if the service is marked with a diamond (reservable).

If you book through www.trainsplit.com you may be able to identify a cheaper combination of tickets.

Yes, I believe the Stansted Express leg is likely to be booked train only. From memory, you will be issued a counted place reservation coupon.

If not (counted places don't just apply to booked train only reservations) you can alternatively buy a £16 anytime single to Tottenham Hale and pick up the advance at the cross-London transfer. The advances for the full trip appear to be about £50 so this option would be a reasonable insurance option

As far as I know Stansted Express services don’t have reservations included on Advance tickets.

I didn’t receive one for my journey last weekend.

How did you get on, @1e10 ?

I didn’t receive any reservation or counted place tickets for the Stansted Express leg of the journey and was able to take the 09:15 with no issue.

However while on the underground between Seven Sisters and Finsbury Park our train became stranded in a tunnel for 65 minutes due to a person hit by a train on the train ahead of us at Finsbury Park.

I made my Virgin train with 3 minutes to go, so no time for the lounge!

EDIT: Picture taken of tube whilst waiting for traction current to be switched back and taken forward! Underground staff were great whilst we waited.
