Hi everyone,

you've been helpful in the past, so here I go again:
I'm currently planning a weekend trip for my wife and myself ... here's the details:

Flight arriving at Stansted on Friday Dec 6th (7am)
Flight leaving Stansted on Sunday Dec 8th (8pm)
Accommodation in Guildford from Dec 6th until Dec 8th

We'd like to spend as much of the time in central london as possible, so we'd probably need a travelcard for all three days. We're most likely not staying in central london due to a concert in guildford on dec 7th. I've had bad experiences before when trying to get back into London very late, so I figured we'd better stay in Guildford.

I guess the saturday is easisest solved by buying a Super Off Peak Day Travel Card at around £19 per person.

What I don't quite know is how to accomplish a Stansted to Guildford return including a travelcard for friday and sunday. Another option would be to get a Travelcard "with extension to Guildford" for Fri and Sun and just do the Stansted bit by one of the bus services.

So, what's your opinion on this?

Thanks

Michael

Couple of options:

Stansted-Guildford Return (Anytime £64.50 / Off Peak £44.40), Oyster or a paper Travelcard covering the Zones required for travel Friday, plus Super Off Peak Travelcard from Guildford on Saturday.

Stansted-London Travelcard (Anytime £40.90, Off Peak £30.20) plus Boundary Zone 6 - Guildford single (£6.90), plus Super Off Peak Travelcard from Guildford on Saturday, plus Guildford-Stansted single (£36.00) for Sunday.

First option will be the easier and cheaper, especially if you use Oyster for travel in London on Friday (the Stansted-Guildford ticket covers your transfer from Liverpool St to Waterloo/London Bridge/Victoria). You can save a little by buying to/from Elsenham rather than Stansted Airport (see here) and using it "short" at Stansted - this saves about £5 on the single and £3 on the Off Peak Return - there is no Anytime Return but you could use two singles (saving about £4).

Buy the tickets with origin Audley End, not Stansted, and you'll save a few quid.

These are valid via Stansted Airport as it is a member of the Stansted Routeing Group. Doubling back is permitted within a Routeing Group under the Group Stations Rule (see page 6 of Routeing Guide Instructions)
