Next week I will be flying from Dundee to Stansted, with luggage.

How long from landing do you think it'll take me to pass through security, collect my bags and get out of the terminal?

Thanks in advance.

I came into Stanstead from Ireland back in June and even with having to be bussed from the plane I was out in under 30 minutes.

Admittedly I didn't have a bag to collect but I landed at 23.30 the other week and was in bed at the nearby Raddison Hotel by 00.10.

You'll be OK providing the sun isn't shining on the automatic passport gates, which according to the news the other week don't like working on sunny days.

Don't think that'll be an issue as Dundee is still in the UK (for now) .....:D

The big delays at Stansted are at passport control, which won't affect you.

It'll depend on whether you have hold luggage or just cabin baggage. The ground services at Stansted are appalling, 45-60 minute waits for hold luggage are not uncommon.

I stopped flying back on Ryanair late at night. Far too often planes were late back (having maybe lost a few minutes on each flight) and if a number arrived at the same time, it seemed you had to wait for your bags to be taken off - which could be up to an hour.

In some respects, the slow progress through passport control wasn't such an issue if you had bags as it killed some time. For those with hand luggage, it would be very frustrating.

It was also quite likely that anyone wishing to take the train to Liverpool Street would miss it if they came in on a late plane, as you'd have to add an hour to the already delayed time, meaning you'd now be stuck on a coach.

Obviously by not doing this anymore, I have no idea if things have improved. I have flown earlier in the day and the passport queues are still there, and they were installing machines that seemed far slower than the ones I used in Germany (which scan your passport while you're waiting for the person in front, given it takes up to 10 second to read the data off the passport). Staff were already slagging the new automatic gates off then. Goodness knows what they think of them now!

That doesn't surprise me, Ryanair seems to have a policy to get all their aircraft back to base before midnight. This results in a stampede of at least 30 Ryanair aircraft cramming into Stansted between 11pm and 0.15am. On the other hand, easyJet stagger their arrivals as late as 3am.
